63200 Vacancies To Be Filled By SBI and PSU Banks - FINANCE MINISTER

After a slight lull in popularity, banking jobs have again found favor with the young generation. This year, more than 7.5 lakh candidates appeared for IBPS CWE PO exams. IBPS, or Institute of Personnel Banking Selection, has been given the job of conducting common banking exams across the country.

Currently, 20 national banks participate in the examination procedure conducted by IBPS. The surge in candidates for banking exams is expected to go even higher with official statements from finance ministry suggesting that there are a lot of vacancies in public sector banks.

According to a statement released by the finance ministry on November 15, 2012, 63,200 vacancieshave to be filled in public sector banks by the end of this financial year. The statement also observedthat there were more than 84,000 vacancies in total at the end of the last fiscal year.

It should be noted that public sector banks also advertised 22,000 vacancies in the officer cadre for those who qualified the IBPS CWE 2011.

30 % WILL BE FILLED BY SBI

The finance ministry also stated that more than 30% of the available vacancies are available in theState Bank of India. It is to be noted that State Bank of India, along with 6 other associate banks, do not participate in the IBPS banking exams procedure. Instead, they conduct their own recruitmentdrive.

The recruitment drive for State Bank of India is expected to begin before the end of this fiscal year, that is, March 2013. Around 21,000 vacancies are expected to be filled up by State Bank of India this by the end of this financial year. Of these 21000 vacancies, around 20,000 are for clerical positions and 1200 are for officer grade.

GOLDEN OPPORTUNITY TO BE IN GOVERNMENT SECTOR

If you are vying for a job in the government sector, the banking sector is a nice opportunity. The benefits received by officers and clerks in the public banking sector are almost at par with other government jobs.

Although there are a lot of vacancies up for grabs, the competition is really tough. Lakhs of candidates appear for the exams for a few thousand jobs. Thus, if you dream of cracking the banking exams, you must put in an earnest effort.

Starting this year, the IBPS CWE has gone online. It is expected to have a significant impact on performance of students. Cracking the written exam alone though won’t get you anywhere.

It is important that you work on your soft skills too. Pay attention to your communication skills. It comes in handy if you are fluent in English as well as your local language. It is also important that you learn to articulate your responses and think on your feet.

If you work hard enough, cracking the exam isn’t impossible. You just have to start believing in yourself.
